SOCIAL SECURITY MAINTAINS PHONE SERVICE
In a reversal, the Social Security Administration withdrew their planned shift scheduled for April 14, that would have required new applicants and those making changes to their direct deposit accounts to make an in-person appointment at their local Social Security office to provide proof or identity. Phone service will still be available without the need for a follow up in person visit – but beware, wait times for phone service are long. The system does allow a caller to leave their phone number for a worker to call them back, and this does seem to be effective. To find the number for your local Social Security office, use this tool.
