NEW YORK RESIDENTS (WHO ARE NOT MEDICARE ELIGIBLE) EARNING UP TO $37,650 NOW QUALIFY FOR IMPROVED INSURANCE BENEFIT ON THE STATE’S EXCHANGE

  • On April 1, an expansion of income limits went into effect for New Yorkers who can purchase insurance on the state’s Exchange (known as NY State of Health Essential Plan Coverage)
    • It offers High-Quality Coverage With $0 Monthly Premium and Low-Cost Sharing.
    • Please note: enrollment in the Exchange is NOT for people eligible for Medicare.
  • The program now includes residents with incomes up to $37,650, (250 percent of the Federal Poverty Line.)
    • This is an increase from the prior limit of roughly $30,000 annual income for an individual.
    • The expansion brings high-quality premium-free health insurance to an additional 100,000 New Yorkers, saving them an average of $4,700 per year.
    • It also now is available to those who are Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) recipients.
  • New Yorkers who completed a NY State of Health application during 2024 Open Enrollment but did not enroll in coverage and now meet the expanded Essential Plan eligibility will receive emails, texts, and outreach from their enrollment assistors that they are eligible for the Essential Plan expansion and must select and enroll in a health plan.  First-time applicants of the NY State of Health who meet the Essential Plan expansion eligibility criteria can now enroll in the program.

There are three ways to enroll in health insurance through NY State of Health:

Signing up is simple.  Have this information ready for each member of your family:

  • Birth dates
  • Social security numbers or, for legal immigrants, document numbers if you have them
  • Employment, income, and health insurance information
