Usually, we tell you Medicare will not reach out to you with a direct communication, but now a select group of Medicare enrollees across the nation will be contacted to complete a user survey. The Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey (MCBS) is the leading source of information on the Medicare program, it’s purpose is to better understand the experiences of people who are covered by Medicare to help improve the Medicare program.
Surveyors may contact Medicare beneficiaries by mail, phone, or in-person. Surveys are mostly done over the phone. They will ask questions related to:
- The health problems of people on Medicare
- The types and affordability of medical care they receive
- Transportation and financial well being including income and medical debt
It is always wise to check the authenticity of anyone asking you questions about your Medicare experience or your personal health information. You can verify the study and interviewer:
- Learn more about the MCBS Respondent page for more information https://mcbs.norc.org/,
- If you received a letter, confirm that it matches those posted at Medicare.gov MCBS Selection Letter,
- Confirm the credibility of the surveyor by asking for the interviewer’s ID number and last name, and entering it at this website for verification https://www.norc.org/WorkingWithNORC/Pages/survey-participants.aspx
