During and following the pandemic, the federal government had authorized states increased ability to streamline enrollment in Medicaid. Now the period of “unwinding” from these flexibilities is upon us and we will see changes to requirements to continue Medicaid enrollment.
- Immediately – if you have a different mailing address than when you previously applied for Medicaid you must update your address with your local Social Services office (or in NYC, HRA) to make sure you receive notices that will be mailed seeking additional information for Medicaid eligibility.
- Two areas of caution: the current automated re-enrollment in Medicaid based on enrollment in SNAP will come to an end for cases now being reauthorized; so will the state’s temporary waiver of completing an asset test to continue to qualify for Medicaid. Read more here.
