A new state rule will be in effect starting 9/1/25 that will make it harder to qualify for Medicaid coverage for home care services if your needs are for assistance with less than three activities of daily living.  There are some nuances to this rule, so it’s best to get informed about how it could apply to you.  The good news is that anyone who has been assessed before 9/1/25 for their needs will not face these limiting restrictions, and all current enrolled Medicaid home care users will not have their coverage change, unless they have a break in coverage.

If you think you might need to enroll in home care services, get your assessment completed before 9/1/25, even if your services won’t start right away to come under the old qualifying rules.  Call StateWide counselors if you have any questions, or your local Department of Social Services (or NYC HRA) or your Medicaid managed care provider.  Read more
