ACTION ALERT

YOUR VOICE IS NEEDED TO PROTECT HOME CARE.  PLEASE LET THE GOVERNOR KNOW THAT CUTS SHE IS PROPOSING TO HOME CARE WILL HURT.

  • Instead of addressing the home care crisis, the Governor’s budget proposals will make the home care worker shortage even worse.
  • Governor Hochul proposes to cut over $1 billion from the important Consumer-Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPA) (immediately affecting 250,000 disabled and older New Yorkers who cannot find home care services without this program) and another cut to slash wage increases for home care workers (also known as wage equity).

Make one phone call:  Call the Governor right away.  Dial 1-518-474-8390 (Office hours: 9:00am to 5:00pm – it’s okay to leave a recorded message.)

  • Message:  I am disappointed that you are making the shortage of home care workers even worse by proposing drastic cuts to the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program and ending wage increases for these workers that keep them on par with other home care aides.

AND (if you are able to) Post your comments to the Governor on her web page, go to: https://www.governor.ny.gov/content/governor-contact-form

  • Under “TOPIC” select HEALTH
  • Under “SUBJECT” enter STOP MAKING THE HOME CARE CRISIS WORSE
  • UNDER “MESSAGE” insert:  I am disappointed that you are making the shortage of home care workers even worse by proposing drastic cuts to the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program and ending wage increases for these workers that keep them on par with other home care aides. I am an older New Yorker that would want to remain in my home when I need care.  Governor Hochul’s proposals will leave so many with no choice but to move to a nursing home – where we don’t want to be cared for and at a much higher cost than care to support remaining in my community home.  Address the crisis in home care.  Transformation of the long-term care is not done by slashing care – you must not have us fall through existing gaps in care.
