StateWide hosts NYSOFA Director Crossdale discussion on Office of Community Living Report in Conference Call 12-17

NY StateWide Senior Action Council has been monitoring activities related to the proposed

NYS Office for Community Living

since the 2015 state budget required a study of a possible merger of disability and aging concerns.

StateWide has arranged a conference call Thursday December 17 at 10AM to brief all interested seniors and senior services providers on the report’s recommendations.

StateWide’s Executive Director Maria Alvarez was appointed by the NYS Office for Aging (NYSOFA) to serve on an advisory group and members of StateWide testified at hearings and forums throughout the state.  Most expressed concerns that funding for aging services was currently not meeting needs and opposed making changes at the state level that would diminish the single focus of the NYSOFA on advocating for older New Yorkers.

A report is due to the Governor and the Legislature today and will include recommendations on a proposed Office of Community Living.

This is the first opportunity for NYSOFA Director Corinda Crossdale to present those recommendations to the public and she wants to hear what you think during StateWide’s Conference Call.  The consumer viewpoint is MOST important on whether this proposal continues to be examined.  There will be time for YOU to speak up and share your concerns about the proposal to merge senior and disability services directly with Director Crossdale.
